COVID-19: Horizon’s Health Centres

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Throughout the pandemic, Horizon's health centres and community health centres have continued to provide access to primary care by appointment, both in-person (when necessary) and by phone. That means you continue to have access to non-urgent health care in your community.

The availability of these services will continue to change as we enter new phases in our recovery plan and may vary by community with some beginning to offer walk-in services

These community-based facilities have also begun offering some urgent and critical services to support the reintroduction of additional priority elective surgeries in regional and community hospitals. These services include:

  • Laboratory services (blood and specimen collection)
  • Diagnostic Imaging (X-ray)

We encourage you to call your local health centre or community health centre to find out what services are available. The health care team will identify the most appropriate way to respond to your needs and schedule an appointment.

Here's what to expect when you arrive for your scheduled appointment:

  • Arrive within 15 minutes of your appointment, unless directed otherwise.
  • Small waiting rooms make it difficult to maintain physical distance, so you may be asked to wait in your vehicle until your appointment time.
  • Upon arrival for your appointment, you will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms, and asked to wear a mask and clean your hands with hand sanitizer. We encourage you to wear your own mask; if you don't have one, one will be provided.

Remember to maintain safe physical distancing, self-isolate if you have travelled, and clean your hands.

If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please call Tele-Care 811 or your primary care provider.

In-person appointments

In-person appointments are being offered in circumstances where a physician or nurse practitioner needs to complete a physical examination, or for urgent and essential physiotherapy, laboratory (blood and specimen collection), and diagnostic imaging (X-ray) needs.

Phone appointments

Many appointments are being done over the phone. This includes appointments with dietitians, social work and diabetic nurse education.

Walk-in services

Certain Horizon facilities are offering walk-in services. This service allows you to be seen by a physician or nurse practitioner. When possible, patients and clients are still encouraged to call and schedule a time for an in-person or telephone appointment.

A new, temporary, by appointment only walk-in clinic is operating in Fredericton at the former Daily Gleaner building at 984 Prospect St.

  • Appointments are available Monday to Friday from 1 to 8 p.m. and Saturday afternoons from 1 to 5 p.m.
  • To book an appointment, call 506-474-4633. Calls will be answered as of 10 a.m. from Monday to Saturday.

These services are available by appointment only and are for non-urgent, minor ailments. If you need emergency care, please call 911 or present to your nearest hospital's Emergency Department.
