The Maritime SPOR SUPPORT Unit (MSSU) is one of several research support units across Canada, supporting patient-oriented research under Canadian Institutes for Health Research's (CIHR) Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR).  Twitter: @maritimespor

A multidisciplinary collaboration of government policy-makers, health authority decision-makers, and healthcare researchers in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island, the MSSU builds upon existing research capacity to provide additional expertise in patient-oriented research, training, and access to linked administrative health data. Through this support, the goal is to improve the quality, accessibility and accountability of healthcare by provided evidence for policy and clinical decision-making.

SPOR Mentorship Chair in Innovative Clinical Trials (iCT)

Dr. Tony Reiman, a medical oncologist at the Saint John Regional Hospital, is one of five SPOR mentorship chairs across Canada. Dr. Reiman will mentor young oncologists, hematologists and laboratory scientists in the development of innovative clinical trials that make use of cutting-edge methodologies in detecting and monitoring cancer.

  • ACCESS Open Minds New Brunswick is one of 12 Canadian sites working with youth and adolescents on ensuring timely access to community-based mental health care
  • The NB SPOR PIHCI Network is New Brunswick's primary healthcare research hub, with a focus on those patients with complex health needs

​Administrative Data Access

Available through the MSSU is linking clinical data to secure, anonymized administrative data (such as Vital Statistics or CIHI's Hospital Discharge Abstracts), at the New Brunswick Institute for Research, Data and Training (NB-IRDT), located at UNB Fredericton.
